Adm. Paul Zukunft, commandant of the U.S. Coast Guard, delivered the State of the Coast Guard Address March 1 at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. This was Zukunft’s final State of the Coast Guard Address, as he will retire June 1, following the Commandant’s Change of Command.

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Coast Guard and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) have teamed up on a consolidated publication that will help mariners save time and money.
The Coast Guard Office of Navigation Systems and NOAA Office of Coast Survey will incorporate the amalgamated International Regulations for the Prevention of Collisions at Sea (72 COLREGS) and the Inland Navigation Rules into NOAA’s U.S. Coast Pilot publications.

This policy letter provides guidance for requesting a Merchant Mariner Credential (MMC) and Mariner Medical Certificate with harmonized expiration dates in accordance with the requirements of Section 304 of the 2015 Coast Guard Authorization Act (CGAA), Public Law No. 114-120. Regional Examination Centers (REC) will accept application packets with requests for harmonization of expiration dates.
