This work instruction (CVC-WI-029(1)) provides guidance to District Prevention Staffs (dp), Officers in Charge, Marine Inspection (OCMIs), and the Towing Vessel National Center of Expertise (NCOE) concerning matters relating to drydock exams (DEs), underwater surveys in lieu of drydocking (UWILD), and drydock extensions (DDEs) for all inspected vessels, including vessel inspected under 46 CFR Subchapter M.

USCG: Fall 2020 Proceedings

The Fall 2020 issue of the Coast Guard Journal of Safety & Security at Sea Proceedings magazine from the Coast Guard is out. The entire issue is dedicated to mariner health and wellness.

USCG: NEW Work Instruction – CVC-WI-018(1) Laid Up Inspected/Examined Vessels

09/01/2020 – USCG published CVC-WI-018(1) Laid Up Inspected /Examined Vessels work instruction. The document provided guidance to the local units when changing a vessel status or returning it to service. It addresses the differences between inspected towing vessels with and without a COI at the time of the status change. The WI also addresses vessel inspection fees for vessels in a laid up status.

Purpose. The purpose of this work instruction (WI) is to establish guidance for Captains of the Port (COTP), Officers in Charge, Marine Inspection (OCMI), Marine Inspectors (MI) and Port State Control Officers (PSCO) placing a vessel into a laid up or inactive status, and returning those vessels back to service. This WI is applicable to U.S. flag inspected vessels and foreign flag vessels subject to Coast Guard Port State Control, to include Mobile Offshore Drilling Units (MODU).
