SUB M TRAINING: Annual Survey of Towing Vessels – May 8-11 – Mandeville, LA

Our four day Annual Survey of Towing Vessels (ASTV) course provides surveyors with the knowledge and skills required to perform Subchapter M surveys of towing vessels. Students who successfully complete this course will have an in-depth understanding of both internal survey programs and external survey programs, the reporting requirements of each, and is the appropriate course for those seeking certification from TVIB that will put them on the path to becoming an approved TPO Surveyor.

USCG: D9 Notice – Special Consideration in Authorizing Departures From Specific Requirements in Subchapter M

The U.S Coast Guard Ninth District published a notice related to Subchapter M enforcement.  The notice allows the OCMI/COTP to utilize their authority to allow special considerations for certain requirements found in Subchapter M. The cognizant OCMI may give special consideration to authorizing departures from specific requirements when unusual circumstances or arrangement warrant such departures and when an equivalent level of safety is provided.

Form CG-835V Vessel Inspection Requirements is specifically tailored to capture more detailed deficiency data in a manner that is aligned with globally accepted Port State Control methodologies. The CG-835V was developed in conjunction with corresponding enhancements to the Coast Guard’s internal database, MISLE, in order to support better data analytics and the development and monitoring of Key Performance Indicators for the U.S. flag fleet and the Recognized Organizations that perform statutory certification and services on the Coast Guard’s behalf.
