Marine Safety Manual Vol. II restructured into seven Commandant Instructions

The Coast Guard Office of Commercial Vessel Compliance (CG-CVC) announced the cancellation of Marine Safety Manual (MSM) Volume II, COMDTINST M16000.7B, and its replacement with seven separate Commandant Instructions, one for each chapter of the previously existing manual. 

MILA Training Course: Final Registration Opportunity

The deadline to register for the MILA Training Course is Tuesday, December 7th. 

TVIB has partnered with SafeMARINER, LLC and ACTion group (d/b/a ACTSafe Training) in this Coast Guard recognized Marine Internal Lead Auditor course, which is designed to teach the specific skills and knowledge necessary to conduct and lead internal audits for commercial marine companies. This fast-paced, informative course requires active participation and successfully completing practical exercises, quizzes, and a final exam in order to earn a certificate.

This course meets the requirements of ANSI Z 490.1 Criteria for Accepted Practices in Safety, Health and Environmental Training and the requirements of 46 CFR 138.310(d)(2) for those individuals performing internal audits under Subchapter M.

Marine Safety Alert: Verify products from Southwest Wire Rope Company- incorrect terminations can lead to catastrophic failure

The Coast Guard Office of Investigations and Analysis has released Marine Safety Alert 08-21, to notify mariners to a potentially dangerous situation involving incorrect wire rope terminations which can lead to catastrophic failure.

Coast Guard Cyber Protection Teams train for the fight

To counter cyber threats the Coast Guard has created Cyber Protection Teams (CPT).  Based in Washington, D.C. CPT is the Coast Guard’s deployable unit responsible for offering cybersecurity capabilities to the Marine Transportation System (MTS).
